WESLEY IS 2 YEARS 2 MONTHS
We recently completed Wes' 2 year old review with the health visitor. He is 85cm tall (slightly over the 9th percentile) and 11.65kg. (slightly over the 25th percentile). Eventhough he is not that tall or heavy, the health visitor reported no concerns about his development.
Wes is pretty good at communicating "my turn" and "mine", both favourites and used on Erin a lot. He can also understand some directions, correctly identify many pictures and animals (albeit not speaking very clearly- he says Opopus for Octopus, iraffe for giraffe) and body parts. He likes the oval shape alot and calls "oval" out in pictures and letters.
His strongest skills are certainly gross motor- going up and down the stairs, running, jumping and climbing. The funniest thing is the feedback from his childminder. They insist that he is great at football because he is able to dribble the ball without looking at the ball, and kick the ball reliably without missing! I am yet to witnesss Wes' prowess myself.
Wes is also good in fine motor skills. He trys to wind up toys and screw lids on and off jars, flip switches on and off and draw interesting shapes. Some shapes even look like faces. He is very interested in tracing letters and numbers.
Wes is able to pretend play, able to find a chair to reach the kitchen countertop, and able to identify the snowman drawing in the 2 year old review form. On the personal-social front, he is able to copy gestures, eat with a fork, cuddle dolls and feed them. One recent episode really moved me. We were at Erin's friend's home and I asked Wes if he wanted a snack as I bent down to retrieve the veggiesticks packs below the buggy. Wes said "Erin", reached for the veggiesticks and brought the pack to Erin who was in the living room. He then came back for his own. He demonstrated an awareness of his sister which felt was beyond his years.
He is interested in numbers and letters, particularly numbers. He correctly identifies numbers when he sees them on buildings and in lifts besides being able to read them in the book. We often ask him to press the lift floor- either 1 or 0, and he is able to do this.
Wes' sense of humour continues to develop. He has such a good laugh and smile. Love you Wes!
